Moms Say YES!

On Tuesday, 10/19/2010 Mothers United spoke out in support of Prop 19. They believe that the legalization of marijuana will create safer communities for children and eliminate the marijuana black market. Check out this video and see for yourself:

The moms say regulating and taxing marijuana could mean more resources for schools, while also making it harder for kids to get pot.

If you ask any kid in high school what’s the easiest drug for them to get their hands on, they’re going to say marijuana. It’s easier than tobacco. Easier than alcohol.  – Gretchen Burns Bergman, co-founder and executive director of A New PATH (Parents for Addiction Treatment and Healing).

Moms aren’t alone in their public support for legalization, the Service Employees International Union also supports the measure on the grounds that revenues from marijuana sales will support jobs. In addition, according to a recent survey from ABC News, the majority of voters are now in favor of legalization. 48%  of those polled say they’re certain to vote yes on the measure, while 44% said they’re certain to vote against it. 8% are not sure. It’s going to be a tough race but hopefully voters will soon see the many benefits of the legalization of marijuana.

haha, im not going to lie. on the video, at the very end when she says “there is a time and place for everything, its called college” it made me laugh. that part is kinda random to her argument. but i liked it. but back to the blog, i really like that the title alone of the post is catching. that is why i chose to comment this one. mom’s say yes is a pretty liberal statement and it caught my eye. i was surprised to see that they did in fact say yes. they also made some valid points as well. having moms supporting it would help with your audience agreeing with you because there are so many mommy bloggers that read other peoples blogs. by seeing other moms agree, the moms that dont agree will probably take a second look. i wish you had put some hyperlinks in. i wanted to see the actual article regarding the survey from ABC news you mentioned but there was no hyperlink to take me there.

  2. It is great to see moms supporting legalization. I do think they are onto something when they say it could create a safer environment for their kids. Also, I believe when kids say it is easier for them to get marijuana than tobacco. My roommate is a “big sister” of sorts, and her little sister tells stories of kids her age, 6th grade, that are getting weed from 7th graders.

“Theres a time and place for everything… it’s called college.” I’m curious to see what the rest of what she has to say is. This was really interesting and a little surprising. Good addition to the rest of your posts!
